Neha Uberoi gets wild card for Sunfeast Open

Promising Neha Uberoi has been given a wild card for the WTA Sunfeast Open tennis tournament starting in Kolkata Sep 19, the organisers announced Monday.

Along with the latest tennis sensation Sania Mirza, Neha and her elder sister Shikha will complete a trio of Indians at South Asia’s biggest sporting spectacle, the organisers said in a statement.

In order to make the most of the given opportunity, both Neha and Shikha will be arriving early to Kolkata, Tuesday.

They are skipping a tournament in Bali, Indonesia, and are reaching early to get acclimatised and prepare to the conditions for the tournament.

Neha Uberoi, Indian of US origin, has received a wild card for the main draw of the Sunfeast Open 2005 tennis tournament to be held in Kolkata, starting on September 19.

Neha has been making waves on the tennis circuit ever since she made her debut on the WTA tour in 2004. In a short span of time, she has received great acclaim from fans and experts alike. She has played four WTA tour events and also reached one singles and one doubles final on the ITF circuit. She had recently received a wild card at the qualifying rounds of the US Open 2005 and gave a commendable performance.

Along with Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza, rising talent Shikha Uberoi, Neha will thus complete a trio of Indian stars competing for the title of South Asia’s biggest sporting spectacle.
